This George Lattin and Mary Sawyer are the brother and sister of Catherine Isabelle Lattin.

George Lattin and Samuel Bumpus were both born in 1844. They may have become friends during the Civil war. I will look for George's military record.

In 1876 the Lattin farm in Carthage was 200 acres and listed as owned by George Lattin according to the plat map I recently sent on. George either moved to CO between 1886 and 1800 with his sister's family or joined them there. I suspect that Samuel lived on the Lattin farm with his wife Catherine Lattin until the farm was sold, likely to a mining or development company, and moved West with George Lattin, Mary Sawyer and family. Catherine may have been with them and that may have when she drowned or at least died "moving West". This could be the trip to the CO. gold fields George James Bumpus told about.

Did Catherine die on the way to CO., while there, on the way back or in the flood of 1872 in the Spring River in Carthage? We may never know, I am not looking for the answers very hard, almost not at all, but a young lady in VA, Sue Lattin, who considers herself a friend sent me the attached from the 1880 census.

Many things continue to haunt me, like why did Samuel return to MO? Did he leave a daughter behind or was his daughter born to Amanda Ballinger in 80 or 81? He didn't marry Amanda until 81 but she was "confined in childbirth" during the 80 census.

Who were Samuel's father and mother and where do I find out? Where did James live and who are his descendants?

I sent for the records of the Samuel Bumpus who joined the 8th Indiana Volunteers in 1862 and mustered out in 64 from the invalid corps. Whoever he was, he was wounded in service in order to be in the invalid corps. I probably won't get a response for several months.

This isn't very exciting information but I thought I should send it on so it won't be lost to the family if my computer crashes.
